TenKARA

We visited the Sugisaka Brothers — Yutaro Sugisaka(杉坂 友大郎)and Keisuke Sugisaka(杉坂 渓亮) high in the Japanese mountains, where they still practice Tenkara the old way: patient, precise, and passed down through generations.

Tenkara is a traditional Japanese fly-fishing method for mountain streams: a long, lightweight telescopic rod, a single tapered line, and a simple kebari fly no reel. It’s about finesse, reading the water, quick elegant casts, and a quiet conversation between angler, stream, and season.
